Castello Romitorio

Aged 12 months in medium toasted, fine grain, French oak Tonneaux (5 Hl) and an additional 14 months in large Slovanian oak casks (48 Hl). The Brunello di Montalcino 2005 possesses strong structural properties fit for maturing and evolving over a period of time. This Brunello will grow finer with age although it is ready to drink upon release.

Wine Spectator

Strawberry pie on the nose and palate, with hints of cream. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and plenty of fruit. Needs bottle age to soften. Powerful. Impressive for the vintage. Best after 2012. 1,700 cases made.

Score: 93. —James Suckling, June 15, 2010.

Wine Enthusiast

Meaty characteristics of cured meat and bresaola open the nose of this vibrant, ruby-colored Brunello di Montalcino. You'll also get hints of wet earth, pressed violets and exotic spice. The wine's texture is smooth and soft and this food-friendly wine will be perfectly ready to drink in a few more years.

Score: 92. —Monica Larner, August 01, 2010.

Wine Advocate

The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino from Castello Romitorio is a fresh, juicy offering endowed with gorgeous dark fruit. Expressive aromatics are woven throughout, adding complexity. This mid-weight, understated Brunello reveals outstanding length and tons of class, with a round, caressing finish that begs for a second taste. It is a terrific effort in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

Score: 91. —Antonio Galloni, April 2010.
